Spring 2015 Rural Progress Report

The South Kenton County Citizens Group steering committee met on March 17, 2015 at the LaRosa’s in Independence.  Each of the four sub-committees provided a report on their activities, which are outlined below.

  • The road sub-committee reported that the county had procedures in place prioritizing work that needs to be accomplished on the county roads. It is imperative that southern Kenton County have its list of roadway priorities ready when the county develops it’s “to do” list. The road committee wants to hold a large public meeting for the local residents to give their concerns and opinions regarding the roadway system. More information on this meeting will be announced in the future.
  • The agriculture heritage committee reported that at their first meeting they discussed transfer of development rights as well as topics for upcoming meeting. The next meeting will be held on April 2nd at 6:30 p.m. at the Kenton County extension office. The topic for the meeting will be annexation. The following meeting will discuss how to get young people involved in agriculture,
  • The zoning committee reported that they are investigating how to keep the southern part of the county rule through the use of zoning. Currently they are looking at changing the zoning to limit the number of small (one acre) lots. The next meeting will be on April 9th location to be determined.
  • The services committee reported that they are looking into increasing the coverage of internet service in southern Kenton County. They are also working with the Northern Kentucky division of water to bring water to those that do not have it.

A contest is underway to design a logo for the South Kenton County Citizens Group. Suzann Parker Leist is soliciting artists, designers, and any interested person to submit designs for group. The designs will be posted in public places, such as the Durr Library, for public comment.

The Southern Kenton County portion of the County government website has been revamped. The Citizens Group will be posting information concerning the Southern Kenton County community on a regular bases.

The next public meeting is scheduled for June 15th from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. The location will be announced.
