Direction 2030 Amendments
Kentucky State Statutes (KRS 100) require Planning Commissions to prepare a comprehensive plan which serves as a guide for public and private actions and decisions to assure the development of public and private property in the most appropriate relationships. Direction2030.org was established on September 4, 2014 as the official comprehensive plan for Kenton County, Kentucky. After the plan’s adoption, amendments were occasionally needed to maintain accuracy and be as up-to-date as possible. Below is a list of amendments that have been made to Direction 2030 since its adoption in 2014.
December 1, 2016 Amendments
On December 1, 2016, KCPC held a public hearing regarding amendments to Direction 2030. The following actions were taken as a result of this public hearing and the planning commission’s official actions.
- Red graphical link added to the top left of the main page that links to action.direction2030.org.
- Link updated to main page video. New video fixed editing issues contained in original video.
- Created new “Implementation” link under “About” menu that links to action.direction2030.org.
- Created new disclaimer pop up feature to notify users when they are leaving the Direction 2030 online plan.
- Created new “Amendments” page and new link under “About” menu that describes amendments to Direction 2030.
- Created two new slider images to reflect new links for “Implementation” and “Amendments” under the “About” section.
- Updated original mobility interactive map on “Mobility” page. Change reflects updated KYTC functional classification (completed June 2016), updated map base street centerlines, and updated aerial imagery from 2012 to 2014 layers to the new interactive map.
- Updated original land use interactive map on “Land Use” page. Change reflects updated KYTC functional classification (completed June 2016), updated map base street centerlines, updated aerial imagery from 2012 to 2014, updated programmed realignments, updated proposed connectivity, and updated functional classification change layers to the new interactive map.
March 2, 2017 Amendment
On March 2, 2017, KCPC held a public hearing regarding amendments to Direction 2030. The following actions were taken as a result of this public hearing and the planning commission’s official actions.
- Added a link to the Villa Hills Study in the Land Use, Small Area Study section.
- Added information on a new page for the Villa Hills Study. This page includes a link to the official study PDF.
- Updated original land use interactive map on “Land Use” page. Change reflects updated land use and small area study layers on the new interactive map that reflect the Villa Hills Study.
August 2, 2018 Amendment
On August 2, 2018, KCPC held a public hearing regarding amendments to Direction 2030. The following actions were taken as a result of this public hearing and planning commission’s official action.
- Updated the Regional, Sub Areas, Environment, Mobility, and Community Facilities plan elements to include recommendations and tasks identified in the Kenton Connects study. Added links to the associated research report and public comments report, and added an interactive bicycle crash map, a pedestrian crash map, and an interactive road slope map.
- Updated Recommended Land Use layer on the original land use interactive map on “Land Use” page. Changes reflect updated land use for the cities of Bromley, Edgewood, Elsmere, Erlanger, Fort Mitchell, Independence, Ludlow, and Ryland Heights on the new interactive map.
- Updated Proposed Connectivity layer on the original land use interactive map on the “Land Use” page. Changes reflect KYTC’s more detailed proposed alignment for KY 536 from Staffordsburg Road to KY 177 and the removal of the proposed arterial connecting KY 16 and KY 177 on the new interactive map.
- Updated the Land Use Element language to include an amended description for Mixed Use. Updated the Community Service Area (CSA) text for the Cox Road and Kentucky State Route 16; and KY 536 and KY 1303 CSAs in Independence.
- Updated the Direction 2030 website architecture including upgrades to WordPress and PHP to provide better security, speed, and performance.
March 7, 2019 Amendment
On March 7, 2019, KCPC held a public hearing regarding amendments to Direction 2030. The following actions were taken as a result of this public hearing and the planning commission’s final actions.
- Updated Recommended Land Use layer on the original land use interactive map on “Land Use” page. Changes reflect updated land use for the cities of Crescent Springs, Crestview Hills, Fort Wright, Lakeside Park, Park Hills, Taylor Mill, and Walton on the new interactive map.
May 2, 2019 Amendment
On May 2, 2019, KCPC held a public hearing regarding amendments to Direction 2030. The following actions were taken as a result of this public hearing and the planning commission’s final action.
- Updated Recommended Land Use layer on the original land use interactive map on “Land Use” page. Changes reflect updated land use for the city of Villa Hills on the new interactive map.
September 5, 2019 Amendment
On September 5, 2019, KCPC held a public hearing regarding amendments to Direction 2030 as part of the five-year update in accordance with KRS 100.197 (2). The following actions were taken as a result of this public hearing and planning commission’s final action.
- Updated Community Facilities, Economy, Environment, Housing, Land Use, Mobility, Sub Areas, Utility Management, and Concept Map elements and tasks. These updates included an evaluation of the plan Elements with updates where necessary, updating the underlying maps and map base, and updating the links to external websites throughout the plan.
August 6, 2020 Amendment
On August 6, 2020, KCPC held a public hearing regarding amendments to Direction 2030. The following actions were taken as a result of this public hearing and planning commission’s final action.
- Updated Recommended Land Use layer on the original land use interactive map on “land Use” page. Changes reflect updated land use for unincorporated Kenton County on the new interactive map.
- Updated Economy, Mobility, and Concept Map elements to include support for high-quality jobs, mobility and infrastructure upgrades to facilitate industrial development, clarity on congestion mitigation measures, and a story map to replace the existing Concept Map.
