Direction 2030 awarded most outstanding plan in the Commonwealth

The September 2014 adoption of Direction 2030: Your Voice. Your Choice. signaled a paradigm shift for planning in Kenton County. For the first time in forty years the county had entirely new goals and objectives and new comprehensive plan text to guide the future of the community.

The efforts of PDS staff and the Kenton County Planning Commission (KCPC) have not gone unnoticed. Earlier this year the Kentucky Chapter of the American Planning Association (APA-KY) recognized Direction 2030 by granting the document one of the Commonwealth’s top honors—the Outstanding Comprehensive Plan Award.

“Kenton County’s new comprehensive plan is the product of strong relationships—both pre-existing and newly-created—between PDS staff, members of the Planning Commission, and stakeholders from throughout the community,” said Dennis Gordon, FAICP, PDS’ executive director. “Without the creative, diligent, and persevering efforts of these relationships, this plan and the recognition it’s received now wouldn’t have been possible.”

“To be recognized for this accomplishment is icing on the cake,” he concluded.
